Holiday recycling tips

After the holidays, a lot of different waste is created. Sorting your waste correctly helps keep the environment clean, prevents drain problems, and makes sure waste is handled safely. Here are the most important holiday recycling tips!

🎄 Christmas trees

You can leave Christmas trees next to the waste bin for collection, so they don’t freeze or get buried under snow. This makes them easier to collect and handle.

🧈 Fats

Do not pour fat down the drain. Ham fat and other cooking fats should be poured into an empty milk carton, allowed to cool, and thrown into mixed waste.

🔋 Electrical devices and batteries

Electric and battery-powered candles and light strings should be taken to e-waste (SER) collection points so the materials can be recycled safely. Batteries can be taken free of charge to battery collection boxes, for example in shops. Remember to tape the battery terminals.

🎁 Christmas flowers, gift wrap and ribbons

Gift wrapping paper, flower wrapping, wreaths, and soil from potted bulbs belong in mixed waste. Remember to remove pots and other separate parts before sorting.

🎇 Fireworks

Used fireworks debris should be thrown into mixed waste. Make sure the fireworks are completely extinguished before disposal.

🧲 New Year’s tin

New Year’s tin contains lead, which is harmful to the environment. Return the tin to a hazardous waste collection point, such as a waste treatment center or collection truck.

♻️ By sorting your waste carefully, you help protect the environment during the holidays and support waste services during a busy time. Thank you for recycling! 🎄
