“When I was moving here – – finding an affordable home in Helsinki was hard, especially with a pet. – – Luckily I submitted an application to you guys, and I think you called me back the very next day saying that you have an apartment for me. Thank you for this. I am now working in my dream job – – and I have found my place in life.” – Tenant
We build and rent affordable homes for young adults.
We are a non-profit housing company that is owned by Nuorisoasuntoliitto ry (NAL), a national supervisor of the housing interests of young people. We own over 2 000 apartments in the Helsinki area and in other larger centres in Finland with a lot of demand for reasonably-priced rental housing. Our apartments are intended for young adults under 30 years of age who are or are trying to become employed.
A home of one’s own is a prerequisite of independent living, but in the Helsinki area especially, the rent level is unreasonably high for most young adults who are just starting out their careers. By offering young people affordable homes we are supporting their independence, start of professional careers, and preventing social exclusion. We finance the construction of our rental apartments with interest subsidy loans and government investment subsidies for special groups.
We take good care of our tenants and our buildings.
We are a responsible and flexible lessor for young adults. We put a lot of effort into maintaining our buildings to make living in them safe and comfortable.
Our tenants can also participate in various tenant events, such as movie nights and exercise sessions. Our tenants also have access to plenty of information and support for independent living. Tenants may also receive personal tenant guidance and counselling when needed.
We take the needs of young people into account.
Our apartments are designed to meet the needs of young people. Our buildings are situated along good transit routes and near the services that young people need.
In resident committees, tenants get to have a say in what goes on in their home building. We are actively listening to the wishes of young adults and closely monitoring the development of the housing scene so that we can develop our operations accordingly.
“I love my apartment. This is the first place in my life that I can truly call home. It is so beautiful and safe. – – I am absolutely grateful and happy that I get to live here. – – I have made some good friends here. This is a good place for a person to live.” – Tenant
